When I moved to Old
Windsor back in the early 1980s
I was fortunate enough to find a copy of the history of
the villiage up until the late 1970s. This was written by
a Mr.G.G.Thomason whom I am indebted to by allowing me to
reproduce in its original form for the consumption of all
parties on the World Wide Web. The design you see on this
page is from an enlarged line drawing of a Saxon ornament
in bronze, little more than an inch long, which was found
during excavations in Old Windsor in the 1950s. It has
been dubbed "The
Kingsbury Beast", and can
be seen in the exhibition at the Windsor Guildhall. So, come with me into Old Windsor's past.
